GET SOME!

HELL YEAH! Finally some new shit!

First off, BIG ups to my man STAB for all the help putting this one together and climbing up those freezing beams with me! Dude's SICK!

Went big with it tonight! If you couldnt tell from the photos, this weeks project is a giant (taller than me, seriously!) cardboard cut out of Banksy's Molotov flower rioter guy ( I know I said I was nothing like him before but this is different). I switched out the rioters masked face with that of Marge from the movie "Fargo" and instead of a bu cay of flowers shes grasping a bushel of wheat ( ND's biggest crop).

She's strategically placed right on top of the historic Fargo Theater sign for Monday's showing of "Exit Though The Gift Shop".  Originally I planned on putting her up Sunday night so she'd be up all day before the premiere but since we live in the city with the toughest weather, we had do it a few days early to avoid being up that frigg'n high up in a snow storm (in April? yeah, in April).

Anyway, after hours of planning and taping and cutting and weather proofing and running and climbing we finally got her up and she looks fuckin huge!

***UPDATE***
That weekend it did end up snowing and being super windy and she survived! But only for a few days longer. After about a week the weather got to her and started looking like shit. So, for the first time ever that I can remember I personally took down my own piece. Gotta keep the city pretty.

Frozen hands are the devils playground

-5 degrees and dropping out there. Tonight's project is a pair of old road signs salvaged from the used hardware store. We took the old beaten up signs and turned them into (hopefully) something a little more fun. When installing them we used an extra long bolt so we could beat it with a big wrench making it much much harder to dismantle.

One is an "FSF" throwie and the other is a play on Fargo's biggest and maybe most danced-around problem: Spring floods. For those not familiar; Fargo nearly sank under in 2009. 2010 wasn't as bad but the city did little to prepare itself for another disaster. Now we're coming up on spring again and are expected to meet if not exceed the water levels seen in 2009. Granted, now there have been moves to prepare and protect the community, there's still a lot of skepticism surrounding the cities competency to take care of the imminent situation.

It's really cold out.

Measure three times, cut four times Pt.2

SUCCESS!...kinda.

We came up with a slightly modified frame for the plexi this time around. Instead of sandwiching it in between two peices of cardboard we drilled holes into the corners and held them together with wire. this way they're lighter and easier to make.

The Windows/Apple ones from last night already got taken down sometime this afternoon so, we decided to paint the frames black so they won't stick out so much during the day (hopefully). Everything went up first try this time so I'd say we're pretty happy with how it turned out!

Measure three times, cut four times Pt.1

Tonight's update was...fun. Two plexi glass panels diffuse the crosswalk signs and reveal a message. If it isnt obvious the message is: "stop Windows" and "start Macintosh".

Though, we failed more than a few times at the correct methods and measurements, we've finally got our formula down pat: First, we drew or letters and designs by hand on vinyl sticker. Then applied that vinyl to the plexi glass we sandblasted to give it a faux-frost to diffuse the light. After the vinyl was lined up and applied we cut out our shapes and letters. Then, sprayed a few coats of black paint over our plexi to be our block out. After the block out dried we peeled the vinyl to reveal the design. Then finally cut our cardboard frames for the plexi so they would fit snugly in the lights. (some images are from other plexi not installed yet)

You may ask why we didnt just duct tape or glue the plexi onto the crosswalk lights? Well we tried multiple ways and, as it turns out, adhesive doesn't set well when the thermometer reads -4. Long night short; things worked out and look great!

It's time to get (ch)ill

This weeks project was a product of random inspiration and pure humor. We bought a clock at a thrift store for a buck and turned it into bling any narcissist would die to show off. The numbers were replaced with magazine clippings and reads "Go F*** Urself" (put your fingers down, it's twelve letters) Then we replaced the "big hand" with a clipping of a guy doing squats and the "little hand" with the same guy holding a weight in place of his junk. As the seconds go by the poor fellow is forced to insert his...well watch the video:

***UPDATE***
Turns out after a week or so of being up a crazy guy "found it in a dumpster" and tried to sell it to THIS, our local skate shop, for 3$! only 3 bucks?!?! needless to say they bought it.
