Slackin

Haven't had a lot of time to work on this weeks update so I coped out and settled with a few small stickers again. Once the sun starts staying up I'll be getting up more. Promise.

In the mean time I went down to ArtMaterial's to snag a few photos of their promotions for the Fargo Theater's showing of Banky's "Exit Through The Gift Shop". I've seen it and personally I think it's all a big practical joke but, it was still pretty rad to see some of heavy hitting street artists at work.  If I'm not mistaken the promos come from a gal who works there, Aliese Anderson:

Also! Right next the art store I ran into the SnowKitects working on a piece to promote another Fargo Theater event: the Fargo Film Festival. They do all kinds of snow sculptures and things around the Midwest and are crazy talented. Unfortunately, only got the chance to snap one photo before the camera died though:

Pictures of sad children

You Always Right!

Your Mother Was a Whore

I Can See You Have a Lot of Maturing Left to Do
Well its freezing again! Way too cold for any kind of adhesive or mounting. So instead,  I wove this drop series in between vines to hold them up. Pictures of Sad Children is a small series of paint marker on cardboard. All the quotes are abridged versions of the kinds of things my step mother would always say to me. Now that I've got them out I've discarded them in the alley and have moved on. Awesome.

Also! a first here on FreeStreet, we have a spotlight on another local street art endeavor. Ran into Fargo's own Yarn Bombers the other night, caught'm in action doing their thing. They've been getting up everywhere lately it's crazy, just killin it. Every time I go out to put something up I stumble upon at least one or two more of their works. Here are a just few of my favorite:

Keep it up guys

Bring on the floods

Trying to make my way down the streets and alleyways when its suddenly 40+ degrees has been less than easy. Everything is wet and gravel and mud. No complaints though, I think its pretty. The sun's out, which is weird.

Since everything's been so wet and gross decided to put a few stickers up for now till things clear up a bit. Hopefully more creative and even interactive things to come soon.

Also, if you're from around here you should probably spend a little time sandbagging. It is ridiculous that the city hasn't come up with a better solution after two years (14 if you start from '97!) but that doesn't change the fact that the water is coming and people need help.

Frozen hands are the devils playground

-5 degrees and dropping out there. Tonight's project is a pair of old road signs salvaged from the used hardware store. We took the old beaten up signs and turned them into (hopefully) something a little more fun. When installing them we used an extra long bolt so we could beat it with a big wrench making it much much harder to dismantle.

One is an "FSF" throwie and the other is a play on Fargo's biggest and maybe most danced-around problem: Spring floods. For those not familiar; Fargo nearly sank under in 2009. 2010 wasn't as bad but the city did little to prepare itself for another disaster. Now we're coming up on spring again and are expected to meet if not exceed the water levels seen in 2009. Granted, now there have been moves to prepare and protect the community, there's still a lot of skepticism surrounding the cities competency to take care of the imminent situation.

It's really cold out.

Measure three times, cut four times Pt.2

SUCCESS!...kinda.

We came up with a slightly modified frame for the plexi this time around. Instead of sandwiching it in between two peices of cardboard we drilled holes into the corners and held them together with wire. this way they're lighter and easier to make.

The Windows/Apple ones from last night already got taken down sometime this afternoon so, we decided to paint the frames black so they won't stick out so much during the day (hopefully). Everything went up first try this time so I'd say we're pretty happy with how it turned out!
